How the Integration Works

This integration follows a five step workflow.
  1. OAuth Connection
    Authenticate your Google account securely.
  2. Property Selection
    Choose the GA4 property that you want to enhance.
  3. Automatic GTM Configuration
    Telepathic injects a JavaScript variable that detects text fragments created by AI Overview clicks.
  4. Custom Dimension Creation
    A text_fragment dimension is added to GA4.
  5. Real time Tracking
    AI traffic data flows into your existing GA4 reports with no changes required from you.

Technical Explanation of Detection Logic

AI Overview highlights only appear in the browser during the initial page load. Telepathic captures them within GTM before they disappear.

This lets Telepathic:

This allows Telepathic to:

Important note: Telepathic does not write to your GA4 or GTM workspace directly. Access must be granted by someone with admin rights.

The correct person will likely be someone who:
  • Set up GA4 or GTM originally

  • Has access to the Admin panel in both tools

Getting Started

  1. Go to Settings then Traffic Analytics in Telepathic
  2. Click Connect Google Analytics
  3. Select your GA4 property
  4. Complete the OAuth login flow
Telepathic takes care of the remaining configuration. Within 24 hours your GA4 reports will begin showing AI traffic attribution.
