Overview

Share of Voice measures how often your brand is mentioned in AI-generated responses relative to other brands tracked for the same prompts. Unlike Mention Rate, Share of Voice is not a weighted metric. Each AI response is counted equally, regardless of the platform on which it appears. This metric helps you understand your relative presence within a competitive set, rather than overall exposure.

How Share of Voice is calculated

Share of Voice is calculated as: Share of Voice =
(Number of responses mentioning your brand ÷ Total brand mentions across all tracked brands) × 100
Where:
  • Responses mentioning your brand includes any AI response that references your brand
  • Total brand mentions includes mentions of all tracked competitors across the same prompts and responses
Each response contributes equally to the calculation. No weighting is applied based on platform usage or popularity.

How Share of Voice differs from Mention Rate

  • Mention Rate reflects overall exposure and is weighted by platform popularity
  • Share of Voice reflects competitive presence and is unweighted
This means Share of Voice is best used for competitive comparison, while Mention Rate is better suited for measuring real-world reach.
